In light of moot's recent decision to step down as Admin of 4chan many /k/ommandos and 4channers are concerned about what the future holds for the online image board. Some suggested migrating to other mirror chans such as 8chan or OPchan. Others have suggested taking donations to create a new chan image board that "doesn't totally suck ass."
Obviously this forum as not the same format as 4chan's /k/ and was not meant to be a substitute in that manner. What do you think should be done? Migrate to another established chan? Make a new chan together from the ground up? Use the NuggetFest Forum?

My vote is to use the nuggetfest forum for now. Then establish a chan for us. Created by /k/omrades, for /k/omrades.

Why leave 4chan? From reading the news link there it seems it's not going anywhere for the forseeable future. . . Worst case this site will suffice for nuggetfest coordination until a different /k/ location can be decided upon. On that note, what's wrong with creating "kchan"?

I'm really not that worried about 4chan. From the interviews and a lot of Chris(moot)'s blog posts it looks like he intents to retain control of 4chan and is only stepping down as the Admin. He'll still own it. I would be fine with helping create kchan if there was enough interest in it. I know we already have OPchan and 8chan's /k/ but I feel that we could do better to get all /k/ommandos in one place. If we could do that it would help us to coordinate a lot of /k/ projects better.

I was coming here to pose that very question creep.
I think that 4chan will last for a while as is, but i do think that it will eventually change,it has to. Change will probably come slowly at first, possibly in increments that we wont notice until those of us that have been there for a long time dont recognize it.
But /k/ has already changed so much over the years and honestly, its not the same place it is when i first discovered it many moons ago. It seems while the community has grown closer, the shitposting and copypasta threads have gotten MUCH worse.
Personally I'm afraid of a gradual increase in censorship, because I like being able to type whatever it is that I want, even if I dont mean it or even operate my life in that manner. I like getting into pointless arguments and I like obscenities and all kinds of slurs.
There really are very few places, on the internet or anywhere else, where that type of freedom is tolerated. In that respect, /k/ and 4chan in general are really representation of true spirit of the 1st amendment just as much as /k/ itself represents the 2nd.
I think if 4chan loses anything by moot leaving, it will be that.
If and until that time comes, we prep the boards, mods and servers at Opchan, 8chan, here, or anywhere else that we came make a temporary sanctuary if so needed.

I really don't want /k/ to be watered down, censored etc but as you said that's an entirely possible course down the road. I intend to keep this forum up for as long as I'm hosting NuggetFest. And if /k/ on 4chan really does start to visibly go to shit then I'll get some /k/ommandos together and put up the kchan that someone suggested. Or as you said OPchan and 8chan aren't out of the question. Not as fond of them, but I won't say it can't be done.

We would have to coordinate with the rest of the board, however, or we will be split and may not recover. That is also a valid concern I've had. It's fine to have 8chan and OPchan and a few other /k/ chans, but if 4chan did implode or /k/ got closed or something SHTF happened there, the mass exodus would send /k/ommandos to all different directions and it would be incredibly hard to get them all back in one place, assuming we could even do that. I don't want to say "Hey spam the NuggetFest Forum and get everyone to come here!" but if you want to share the site with friends and other /k/ommandos you're welcome to do so.

I received a warning from one of /b/'s mods for shitposting. Yup 4chinz is going down the commode.

"We are not now that strength which in old days Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are; One equal temper of heroic hearts, Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
I remember when I first started going on /k/. It was full of not only obscenity and hilarity, but knowledge and passion. I saw us argue about the silliest things, and unite over the most important. As strange as this is to say, a little board on the asshole of the internet greatly influenced everything from my prefered trigger mechanisms to my political views. And I dearly miss that place. Also this gave me an excuse to quote a really good poem.

I wouldn't have met any of you guys without 4chan and moot.

I have to give some major props to Moot, even if I disagree with some stuff he did with 4chan. He created a haven for us weirdos, for better or worse. Hell, I'd even go as far as to say that 4chan has changed the world. And you sir. I give you some shit, but I honestly respect the hell out of you and am grateful that you work so hard to do this incredible thing. All the guys at the winter olympiks were wonderful, a far cry from what you would think would come from 4channers. The Kikfags are the greatest, and I'm fucking proud to call them my friends. I have friends from school and work and ones I met around town, but not ones who would drive literally across an entire continent to hang out for a few days. Hell, one of them has gone out of their way to get me set up with my own place and another vouched for me at the LGS they work at so I could get a leg up in with my application after I got told to gtfo of my house. The first thing Tea and Bros asked when they heard that was if they needed to turn around and pick me up. And the best part is, I'm sure I'll meet even more like that at future nuggetfests and through what ever embodiment /k/ takes in the future.
As for the future of /k/, I'll say this. /k/ can't be killed, no matter how shitty the 4chan board gets. We're either just that brilliant or just that mad. You don't see guys with /b/ or /x/ or /a/ patches, they all say /k/.

I will say that opchan is not really a viable alternative. It's a very different community with a very different attitude. I lurk occasionally, and it's a nice board, but they have ZERO patience for anything they consider "tomfoolery". You go there to read a thread about military strategy in WW2 that updates 3 times a week, and that is IT.

It seems that if you didn't join up back in 2008 when they started out you missed the boat. I get the impression that's its a more closed group of /k/ommandos and aren't as friendly to other new joins. But that's just what it seems like, I wouldn't know for sure as I'm not part of the group.

Opchan is just significantly less tolerant on the "normal" boards of chaff amongst the wheat in terms of posts. The whole community was originally spawned basically because /k/ shit itself and remained around due to there being a need for a more 'srs bsns' discussion medium whilst still being a 'chan.
Feel free to hop in and participate, but if you say X method/equipment/etc sucks... be prepared to back it up with some factual statements. Everyone wants to have good poop prior to dropping coin. Not everyone wants to buy shit weapons/gear then have the trouble of ditching it at a loss or being injured/etc if it fails.

I was under the impression Opchan was formed in 2008 when 4chan went down as part of a DNS attack. Regardless, I appreciate your input, especially being that you spend time there. I may not agree with everything there, but I can understand the desire for a /k/ website that is more grounded in fact vs opinion and personal preference.
